Azerbaijan’s Qarabag suffered a heavy away defeat to England’s Liverpool in the eighth round of the UEFA Champions League league phase, losing 6-0 at Anfield.
Despite the one-sided scoreline, the Baku-based club finished the league phase with 10 points, which proved enough to book a place in the Champions League playoffs.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Alexis Mac Allister. Six minutes later, Florian Wirtz doubled the hosts’ advantage. After the break, the pressure intensified, with Mohamed Salah making it 3–0 in the 50th minute.
The goals continued to flow. Hugo Ekitike struck in the 57th minute, Mac Allister completed his brace four minutes later, and substitute Federico Chiesa sealed the rout in the 90th minute.
While the night at Anfield ended in disappointment, Qarabag’s progression to the playoff stage stands as a significant achievement, especially given the demanding schedule and level of competition in the league phase.
