The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has begun supplying Azerbaijani natural gas to Austria and Germany, marking a new stage in the country’s gas exports to Europe.
According to SOCAR, the supplies are being carried out via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the European segment of the Southern Gas Corridor. The company already sells significant volumes of gas across Southern and Central European markets, and the inclusion of Austria and Germany further expands Azerbaijan’s export geography.
Starting from January 2026, Azerbaijani gas has been delivered to buyers in Austria and Germany alongside other European destinations. The supplies reach these markets through Italy, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s role in Europe’s diversified energy routes.
With the addition of Austria and Germany, the total number of countries importing Azerbaijani gas has risen to 16.
SOCAR said the expansion is part of Azerbaijan’s long-term gas strategy shaped under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev. The strategy focuses on steadily widening marketing operations in Europe and the Middle East, strengthening partnerships with international buyers, and consolidating Azerbaijan’s position as a reliable energy supplier on global markets.
The new deliveries come amid sustained European demand for diversified and secure gas sources, further underlining the strategic importance of the Southern Gas Corridor for regional energy security.
