Azerbaijan should work toward finalizing a peace agreement with Armenia before the parliamentary elections scheduled for June, according to Azerbaijani lawmaker Fazil Mustafa.

Speaking to local media, Mustafa said that Baku’s core demands remain unchanged and stressed the importance of using the current political moment to advance the peace process.

“We should strive to ensure that the peace agreement is resolved before the elections. Our demands remain in force,” the MP said.

He noted that the outcome of the elections in Armenia could shape a new political reality, which may require adjustments in Azerbaijan’s approach if expectations are not met.

“If the electoral process does not align with our expectations, we will have to formulate a policy adapted to the new situation,” Mustafa said.

“At the same time, the current Armenian government’s approach to these issues creates a certain level of hope for progress in the peace process.”

The lawmaker emphasized that Azerbaijan cannot make decisions on behalf of the Armenian people and that it remains unclear whether the current leadership in Yerevan will retain power after the elections.

“It is difficult to make definitive assessments at this stage,” he added. “However, in all circumstances, we must move as quickly as possible toward peace and work to ensure concrete steps are taken in that direction.”

Mustafa’s comments come amid ongoing efforts to advance negotiations between Baku and Yerevan, with regional and international attention focused on whether a comprehensive peace agreement can be reached in the near term.
