Iranian Azerbaijanis are not a diaspora or an external community but one of the core state-forming elements of Iran, according to political analyst Rizvan Huseynov, speaking on the Novosti Kavkaza channel.

Huseynov argues that for centuries Azerbaijanis have played a significant role in shaping Iran’s political system, ideology, and governing institutions. As a result, any discussion about Iran’s future – whether focused on reform, gradual transformation, or potential instability – inevitably involves the Azerbaijani factor.

He also challenges the widespread perception of Iranian Azerbaijanis as a marginalized minority. In reality, he notes, representatives of this community have historically been present across Iran’s political, military, and religious structures, making them an integral part of the country’s power framework.

From a regional perspective, Huseynov stresses that a sudden collapse or prolonged chaos in Iran would not serve Azerbaijan’s interests.

Instead, he sees evolutionary change combined with internal stability as the most rational path, one that could further strengthen the role of Azerbaijanis within Iran’s political system while preserving regional balance.
