Car prices in Azerbaijan have increased following a rise in customs duties, with the sharpest impact seen in the new vehicle segment. The price growth is directly linked to higher import costs, according to automotive market expert Sarkhan Gadirov.

Gadirov said that most vehicles imported into Azerbaijan are new cars, making the market particularly sensitive to changes in customs regulations. In the price range of 20,000-30,000 manats, vehicles have become more expensive by up to 3,000 manats. In the premium segment, the increase is significantly higher.

“For cars priced above 100,000 manats, price hikes range from 10,000 to 15,000 manats, and in some cases reach 20,000 manats,” the expert noted.

Hybrid vehicles have been especially affected. Gadirov linked this trend not only to customs duties but also to rising prices for AI-92 gasoline and diesel fuel, which has reshaped consumer demand and influenced import strategies.

The price increase has also spread to the used car market.

Higher prices are being recorded for vehicles imported from China and South Korea, as well as cars purchased through U.S. auto auctions. According to the expert, the pressure from the new-car segment is gradually spilling over into second-hand sales.

At the same time, demand for passenger cars imported from Europe has dropped noticeably. Current imports from European countries are now dominated by commercial and cargo vehicles, while interest in European passenger cars remains weak.

Market analysts say prices are likely to remain elevated in the near term as the auto market adjusts to the new customs framework, particularly in the new and hybrid vehicle segments.
