Ukraine has carried out a long-range drone strike on the Filanovsky offshore oil platform operated by Lukoil-Nizhnevolzhskneft in the Russian sector of the Caspian Sea, Interfax-Ukraine reported, citing sources within the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
According to the source, at least four impacts were recorded on the platform. The strike forced the shutdown of oil and gas production at more than 20 wells serviced by the facility.
This marks the first known Ukrainian attack on Russian energy infrastructure in the Caspian Sea.
The Filanovsky field is one of Russia’s largest discovered deposits in the Caspian region, with reserves estimated at 129 million tonnes of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Output from the field had been routed for export via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC).
