Istanbul Raids Expose Alleged UAE Intelligence Cell Gathering Sensitive Data

Turkish authorities say they have uncovered and dismantled an intelligence network operating on behalf of the United Arab Emirates, accusing the group of conducting political and military espionage inside the country.

According to reporting by A Haber, cited by Report, the operation was carried out under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Istanbul Police Department’s counterterrorism unit, and Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT).

Officials say the group created fake online profiles using phone numbers purchased from a Turkish mobile operator. These profiles were allegedly used to collect sensitive information on:

  • senior figures in Turkey’s defense industry,

  • a phone line belonging to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

  • and individuals in contact with foreign government representatives.

Investigators identified four suspects. Three were detained during coordinated raids; a fourth, believed to be outside the country, is now the subject of an international arrest warrant.

Turkish authorities framed the case as part of ongoing efforts to counter foreign espionage operations targeting strategic sectors and government institutions.
