Azerbaijan’s women’s national chess team finished second at the World Chess Championship in Linares, securing one of the strongest results in the country’s recent chess history.
As Report notes, the Azerbaijani squad faced the FIDE team in the decisive match. The lineup — Ulviya Fataliyeva, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Gulnar Mammadova, and Ayan Allahverdiyeva — lost the first encounter 1–3 and the second 1.5–2.5.
The team was captained by Ilaha Kadimova.
