Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a telephone conversation with Asaad al-Shibani, the foreign minister of Syria’s transitional government, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation and strengthening political dialogue between Yerevan and Damascus.
According to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, both sides agreed to intensify engagement through reciprocal visits and expanded diplomatic contacts. The ministers emphasized that the long-standing friendship between the Armenian and Syrian peoples remains a solid foundation for advancing cooperation across multiple fields.
Mirzoyan and al-Shibani identified several priority areas for future partnership, including economic cooperation, investment promotion, and humanitarian initiatives. Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue assisting Syria with humanitarian de-mining operations.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional developments. Al-Shibani congratulated Armenia on the peace agreement reached with Azerbaijan during negotiations in Washington on August 8, expressing hope that the new phase will help reinforce long-term regional stability.
The discussion follows earlier contacts between the two governments: in January, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan visited Damascus and confirmed Yerevan’s willingness to support Syria in humanitarian efforts and reform programs.
