Firefighters from the Gedabey district branch of Azerbaijan’s State Fire Protection Service are continuing efforts to extinguish a large wildfire burning on sections of the Armenia–Azerbaijan border, in the area classified as neutral territory.
The blaze has been spreading across the villages of Isaly, Dordlar and Mormor in Azerbaijan’s Gedabey district. The fire has persisted for four days.
Emergency crews say the rugged mountainous terrain has made it impossible to deploy heavy firefighting equipment to the site. Strong and shifting winds are also complicating containment efforts, causing the flames to intensify at intervals. Despite the challenges, work to localize the fire is ongoing.
Both Azerbaijani and Armenian media outlets have reported that large-scale fires have been visible for several consecutive days along the de facto border line in the direction of Gedabey.
