After her disappearance, her husband relocated their son Said Aliyev and his brothers to their grandparents’ home in the Salyan region, while he went to Dagestan for work.

Three months later, Rafiga contacted Said by phone, telling him she had started a new life with another man and did not intend to return. The teenager pleaded with her to come back, but she firmly refused.

Days later, in a state of emotional turmoil, Said took a knife and traveled to Baku. He arranged to meet his mother near the roadside in Mamedli. During their conversation, he again tried to persuade her to return to the family, but she refused once more. Overcome with rage, the boy stabbed his mother ten times, killing her on the spot, and then fled.

Police quickly arrested him, and the court later found him guilty of murder committed with particular cruelty. Taking into account his young age, the court sentenced him to 7 years and 6 months in prison.
