Allahshukur Pashazade Meets Pope Leo XIV

During his visit to the Vatican, the Chairman of the Caucasus Muslim Board, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, met with Pope Leo XIV, the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

According to AZERTAC, the meeting took place following the general audience at St. Peter’s Square.

Sheikh-ul-Islam Pashazade conveyed the greetings of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to the Pontiff.

He highlighted the activities of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the Vatican over recent years and noted the ongoing construction of a second Catholic church in Azerbaijan.

Pashazade also emphasized that a visit by Pope Leo XIV to Azerbaijan would be a great honor, allowing the Pope to personally witness the country’s high level of interfaith harmony, state-religion cooperation, and atmosphere of multiculturalism.

In response, Pope Leo XIV expressed interest in visiting Azerbaijan, saying he would consider it in his official schedule.
