The Caspian Sea’s water level has fallen by about 2.5 meters over the past 15 years – a dramatic decline that has pushed the shoreline back by hundreds of meters in some areas. Experts warn the situation is becoming increasingly alarming each year.
Reporters from Azerbaijan Television conducted on-site measurements along Baku Boulevard, finding that in certain coastal sections, the water depth is now less than one meter.
Parts of the boulevard that were once covered by sea have turned into marshy lowlands — a visible reminder of how far the Caspian has retreated.
