Azerbaijani swimmer Anastasia Gnusina secured a bronze medal in the women’s 1,500-meter freestyle at the ongoing III CIS Games, finishing third behind Russia’s Anastasia Chernyshova and Valeria Braznichenko.
Her teammate, Suleyman Ismailzade, delivered one of the day’s highlights by taking gold in the men’s 400-meter freestyle. Russia’s Alexander Filipets claimed silver, while Bogdan Toropkin earned bronze.
Elsewhere, Russia triumphed in the mixed team badminton final in Gabala, sweeping Uzbekistan 3–0. The badminton competition will conclude on October 4.
In Khankendi, archery contests opened today at the city stadium, bringing together 40 athletes from seven countries.
Azerbaijan is represented by three young men and three young women. The event has drawn spectators from the city, students of Karabakh University, and media representatives. Competitions will continue until October 5.
Meanwhile in fencing, Russia’s Yaroslav Borisov captured gold in men’s sabre, defeating compatriot Pyotr Taychenachev 15–8 in the final.
