Azerbaijan is preparing to localize electric bus production as part of its push toward green industry. Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov met with Tian Chunlong, a representative of China’s BYD, to discuss plans for launching assembly operations in the Sumgayit industrial park.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the talks focused on the next steps in establishing the project and aligning it with Azerbaijan’s economic priorities, including industrial growth, green technologies, and energy efficiency.
The meeting highlighted the rapid development of Azerbaijan-China cooperation in recent years. During President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Beijing, the two countries signed multiple agreements and memorandums, including a declaration on strategic partnership. Officials say this framework is opening wide opportunities for bilateral investment and collaboration, particularly under the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Sumgayit project, if realized, would mark a significant step in Azerbaijan’s industrial diversification and its adoption of sustainable transport solutions.
