An Azerbaijani lawmaker has called for phasing out the word “invalid” in legislation, arguing that the term is outdated and should be replaced with more inclusive language.

Speaking at a Milli Majlis committee hearing on science and education, MP Jeyhun Mammadov proposed amending laws to reflect terminology already in use internationally.

“Today the word ‘invalid’ and similar expressions are rarely used. Instead, the phrase ‘person with disabilities’ has become widespread. We should gradually remove the old wording from our legislation as well,” Mammadov said, according to Oxu.Az.

The discussion arose during debate on the draft law “On Social Protection of Children Who Have Lost Parents and Those Deprived of Parental Care.” Mammadov stressed that Azerbaijan has already introduced such changes in several statutes, and further revisions are needed to align legal language with global standards.
