Azerbaijan Wins Eight Medals, Finishes Second Behind Iran in Zagreb

Azerbaijan’s Greco-Roman wrestling team finished second overall at the World Championships held in Zagreb, Croatia, securing a strong result with one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals for a total of 89 points.

According to the Wrestling Federation, Iran topped the standings with 180 points, while Uzbekistan placed third with 72 points.

Azerbaijani wrestlers delivered an impressive haul of eight medals in total across weight categories:

  • Gold: Ulvi Ganizade (72 kg)

  • Silver: Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg), Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg)

  • Bronze: Eldeniz Azizli (55 kg), Nureddin Novruzov (61 kg), Arseny Djioev (86 kg), Osman Nurmagomedov (92 kg), Murad Ahmadiev (92 kg)

The result confirms Azerbaijan’s continued strength in Greco-Roman wrestling, maintaining its place among the world’s elite teams.
