BAKU, September 9
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is expected to draw more than 12,000 foreign tourists to Baku later this month, organizers announced.
According to Baku City Circuit, international fans have become the backbone of the race’s audience. Last year, more than 80% of spectators came from abroad, with many arriving even without tickets simply to experience the atmosphere of Formula 1 in the Azerbaijani capital.
Formula 1’s own statistics show that 55% of fans would recommend the Baku race to friends, while 72% plan to return within the next two years. On average, each international visitor spends around $2,200, making the Grand Prix a major driver of tourism and local business.
In 2024, the Baku race reached a global TV audience of 86 million, while content related to the event was followed by more than 3.9 billion people across platforms.
More Seats, More Local Involvement
This year, two new grandstands have been added, raising total capacity to over 20,000 seats. Of the 12 stands, 10 are already sold out.
Preparations involve more than 2,000 engineers, technicians, and builders. During race days, they will be joined by an additional 1,500 staff, 2,000 volunteers, and 1,400 marshals. While international contractors once handled much of the workload, the process is now fully managed by local companies, creating jobs and building skills among Azerbaijani specialists.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place in Baku from September 19 to 21.
