Baku, Sept. 9
A new type of fraud involving car sales has been uncovered in Azerbaijan, according to local reports.
The scheme works through the use of a “general power of attorney”. As Milli.Az informs, fraudsters purchase a vehicle under this legal arrangement, then call the seller within hours demanding the car back, threatening “serious problems” if refused.
By that time, according to accounts circulating on social media, the perpetrators have already swapped out original parts for cheap replacements, leaving the seller at a loss.
Specialists are urging buyers and sellers to use only formal sales contracts in order to protect themselves from such schemes.
