Around 43 percent of Azerbaijan’s 2,500 medical stations are in poor condition and unable to provide adequate healthcare services, according to Zaur Aliyev, Chairman of the State Agency for Mandatory Health Insurance.

Speaking at a joint parliamentary session on the 2026 state budget, Aliyev said the issue of infrastructure decay is compounded by a shortage of qualified medical personnel across the country.

“We are facing both a lack of suitable facilities and a shortage of professional staff,” Aliyev noted.

“Specific measures have already been developed to address the personnel gap, and a pilot project has been launched in the Barda district. We are doing everything possible in this direction.”

The official emphasized that improving healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and remote regions, remains one of the government’s top social priorities under the upcoming budget cycle.
