July 15, 2025 – Aghdam, Azerbaijan
Roughly 30% of the land in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts has been cleared of landmines, according to Emin Huseynov, the special representative of the President of Azerbaijan for these regions.
Speaking at a conference held in Aghdam, Huseynov said that while the city of Aghdam is now largely mine-free, large portions of the surrounding district remain heavily contaminated due to their location along the former line of contact.
“Demining efforts are ongoing. So far, 54.24% of Aghdam, 67.76% of Fuzuli, and 7.56% of Khojavend have been cleared,” he stated.
Landmine contamination remains a major obstacle to reconstruction and resettlement in these areas, which were returned to Azerbaijani control following the 2020 conflict. Authorities have prioritized demining operations as part of broader regional rehabilitation and development plans.
